ABOUT US

NAEA‑SA was established in 2025 to unify and transform South Africa’s arts education ecosystem. Guided by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC), the Authority responds to the urgent need for equitable access, professional standards, and systemic development across the creative sector. The council is built on redressing past inequalities, empowering marginalized communities, and positioning South African arts as a global cultural export. Through flagship programs like CACEP, NAEA‑SA integrates heritage, innovation, and wellness into education, ensuring lifelong and life‑wide learning opportunities.

The primary objectives of NAEA are:

Strategic Coordination: To facilitate collaboration and coordination within the Arts Education sector and provide strategic leadership and national policy guidance.

Representation: To serve as the official representative body for the Arts Education sector nationwide, ensuring that sector-specific issues and opportunities are addressed with a coordinated voice.

This membership framework shall define criteria, benefits, rights, and responsibilities, as well as pathways for sectoral participation at all levels of the NPC.

Advocacy: To advocate for policy changes, resources, and sector-specific initiatives that support the sustainable development and accessibility of Arts Education across the cultural and creative industries, life-long and life-wide, and to promote the sustainable growth of the sector and professionals within the sector.

Sector Development: To promote the development and implementation of programmes that support Arts Education for the development of the Cultural and Creative Industries, as well as Arts education as a fundamental part of a quality education for every South African. This includes inclusive ECD and disability frameworks aligned with UNESCO lifelong and life-wide learning principles.

Resource Mobilization: To mobilize and manage resources with transparency and accountability in accordance with best practices and applicable legislation.

Multi-Sector Cooperation: To foster multi-sector cooperation supporting growth and innovation within the Arts Education sector.
